  • 8 ounces Penne Pasta Substitute with rigatoni or fusilli for variety.
For the Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Use olive oil for a lighter option.
  • 12 ounces Smoked Sausage Consider chicken or turkey sausage for a lighter meal.
  • 4 cloves Garlic Fresh garlic is best.
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika Regular paprika is a substitute but will lack flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes Adjust based on your spice preference.
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth Vegetable broth is a great substitute.
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Use half-and-half for a lighter version.
  • 1 cup Parmesan Cheese Freshly grated is ideal.
  • Salt Salt Season to taste.
  • Pepper Pepper Season to taste.
For the Garnish
  • 1/4 cup Fresh Parsley Optional but recommended.

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add penne pasta and cook until al dente, about 9–11 minutes. Drain pasta and reserve a cup of starchy pasta water.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat and add sliced smoked sausage. Sauté until golden brown, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Stir in smoked paprika and red pepper flakes.
  4. Pour chicken broth into the skillet to deglaze, stirring well. Simmer for 3-4 minutes to develop flavor.
  5. Lower heat and gradually stir in heavy cream. Add grated Parmesan cheese until melted and sauce is creamy.
  6. Add cooked penne pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat. Adjust thickness with reserved pasta water as needed. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve immediately in bowls.
