- Warm 1 cup of milk to about 20°C (lukewarm). Stir in crumbled fresh yeast until dissolved.
- In a bowl, mix 4 cups of flour, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of cardamom. Pour in milk-yeast mixture and mix with an electric mixer on medium for 10 minutes.
- Gradually blend in 1/2 cup of softened butter, then fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm area for 1.5 hours or until doubled.
- Punch down dough, divide into 9 portions, shape into balls, and proof for 45 minutes on a lined baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 225°C (440°F) and brush tops with 3 tablespoons of milk or an egg wash.
- Bake rolls for around 12 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving.
