Method
 

Batter Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of sifted all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg.
  2. In another bowl, mix 1/2 cup of melted unsalted butter with 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Gradually pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients, gently folding them together until just combined.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour and spread the batter into the pan, smooth out the top, and bake for 20–25 minutes.
  3. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Glazing
  1. Prepare the glaze by mixing 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of milk, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
  2. Pour the glaze over the cooled bars and add any desired toppings before the glaze sets.
  3. Cut into squares or rectangles and serve warm.
