Batter Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of sifted all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/2 teaspoon of ground nutmeg.
- In another bowl, mix 1/2 cup of melted unsalted butter with 1 cup of granulated sugar, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of buttermilk, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually pour the wet mixture into the bowl with the dry ingredients, gently folding them together until just combined.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Pour and spread the batter into the pan, smooth out the top, and bake for 20–25 minutes.
- Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Glazing
- Prepare the glaze by mixing 1 cup of powdered sugar, 1/4 cup of pure maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of milk, 1 tablespoon of melted butter, 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt.
- Pour the glaze over the cooled bars and add any desired toppings before the glaze sets.
- Cut into squares or rectangles and serve warm.
