  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Fresh minced onion can replace for stronger flavor
  • Salt Adjust to taste
  • Pepper Adjust to taste
For the Cabbage Layer
  • 1 Green Cabbage Use Savoy cabbage for softer texture
For the Topping
  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar/Jack Cheese Can substitute with mozzarella or omit for dairy-free

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat the Oil: In a large pan or Dutch oven, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  2. Sauté the Meat and Vegetables: Add 1 pound of ground beef, chopped sweet onion, and diced orange bell pepper. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add Garlic and Seasonings: Stir in 3 minced garlic cloves and cook for an additional minute. Then add diced tomatoes, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper.
  4. Layer in the Cabbage: Gently layer chopped cabbage over the mixture. Cover and let it cook for 15-20 minutes until cabbage is softened.
  5. Add the Cheese: Remove the lid and sprinkle 2 cups of cheese on top. Cover and let the cheese melt for 3-5 minutes.
