Ingredients

For the Patties
  • 2 cans Canned Tuna Best to use water-packed tuna for added moisture and flavor.
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Feel free to substitute with panko for extra crunch.
  • 1 cup Cheddar Cheese Can swap in Swiss or Pepper Jack for a flavor twist.
  • 2 tablespoons Mayo Optional; Greek yogurt is a healthier alternative.
  • 1 large Egg Omit for a vegan version and use flaxseed meal instead.
  • 1 teaspoon Spices Enhances flavor; include red pepper flakes for a kick.
For Serving
  • 4 slices Toasted Bread or English Muffin Provides a lovely base for your crispy patties.
  • 2 cups Fresh Salad A light accompaniment to balance the meal.

Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • skillet
  • refrigerator

Method

Preparation
  1. Begin by draining the canned tuna thoroughly and placing it in a mixing bowl. Combine the tuna with breadcrumbs, shredded cheddar cheese, your choice of spices, and a beaten egg. Mix all the ingredients until well integrated.
  2. Once your mixture is ready, take a portion and shape it into 1-inch thick patties. This should yield about six to eight patties. Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to help them firm up.
  3. Heat a generous amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once shimmering, place the chilled patties into the skillet. Cook for approximately 4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 4 minutes.
  4. If desired, add a slice of your favorite cheese on top of each patty in the final minute of cooking, covering the skillet to trap heat and melt the cheese.
  5. Transfer the cooked patties onto a serving platter. Enjoy as they are or serve on toasted bread or English muffins with a light salad.
