Preparation
- Begin by draining the canned tuna thoroughly and placing it in a mixing bowl. Combine the tuna with breadcrumbs, shredded cheddar cheese, your choice of spices, and a beaten egg. Mix all the ingredients until well integrated.
- Once your mixture is ready, take a portion and shape it into 1-inch thick patties. This should yield about six to eight patties. Refrigerate for 15-20 minutes to help them firm up.
- Heat a generous amount of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once shimmering, place the chilled patties into the skillet. Cook for approximately 4 minutes on one side until golden brown, then flip and cook for another 4 minutes.
- If desired, add a slice of your favorite cheese on top of each patty in the final minute of cooking, covering the skillet to trap heat and melt the cheese.
- Transfer the cooked patties onto a serving platter. Enjoy as they are or serve on toasted bread or English muffins with a light salad.
