Ingredients

For the Roll-Ups
  • 8 slices White Sandwich Bread Use fresh, soft bread for the best texture.
  • 2 tablespoons Melted Butter Can substitute with margarine or oil.
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar White sugar can be a substitute, though flavor will differ.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Essential for the signature flavor.
For the Egg Mixture
  • 3 large Eggs Flaxseed eggs can be used for a vegan option.
  • 0.5 cup Milk Use almond milk or any plant-based alternative.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Optional but enhances flavor.
For Frying
  • 1 tablespoon Butter for Frying Non-stick cooking spray can be used as an alternative.

Equipment

  • non-stick skillet
  • Rolling Pin
  • Shallow bowl

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by removing the crusts from each slice of white sandwich bread. Use a rolling pin to flatten each slice to about a quarter-inch thickness.
  2. In a small bowl, mix together 2 tablespoons of melted butter, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon until combined into a paste-like consistency.
  3. Spread an even layer of the cinnamon mixture across each slice of flattened bread, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Starting from one end, tightly roll each slice of bread with the filling inside and gently seal the edges.
  5. In a shallow bowl, whisk together 3 large eggs, 1/2 cup of milk, an additional sprinkle of cinnamon, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until well combined.
  6. Place a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a tablespoon of butter to melt.
  7. Carefully dip each roll in the egg mixture and place them seam-side down into the preheated skillet. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  8. Once the roll-ups are golden brown, remove them from the skillet and place them on a serving plate.
